Program Description
The food industry has seen much change this past year, with headlines about food safety issues appearing on what seems to be a daily basis. The House of Representatives passed the Food Safety Enhancement Act of 2009 this past summer, and the Senate is poised to take up its own bill. Inspections by federal and state authorities are increasing steadily, and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has inaugurated a Reportable Food Registry as directed under the Food and Drug Administration Amendments Act of 2007.
This updated food law and regulation meeting will give you an opportunity to ask questions and exchange ideas in an interactive forum. Those who are interested in the basics will learn the essential elements of food law and regulation, as well as an orientation to administrative agencies to further your understanding of how the government agencies, FDA, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Federal Trade Commission (FTC), among others, enforce regulations. This meeting is also an excellent refresher for the seasoned professional. Additionally, you will be provided with the a context for keeping up with pending regulations, rulemaking and other activities involving safety, claims, international issues and many more subjects of immediate concern to the industry.
This is an indispensable program, at a critical time for the food industry, going far beyond the "what and the how," to a serious discussion of what comes next and what it will mean for your company's future.
Who Should Attend?
Introduction to Food Law and Regulation is geared toward a broad spectrum of participants: new members of the legal and regulatory affairs communities, representatives from federal and state governments, business development and government relations professionals and others in the conventional food and dietary supplement industries.
