The Food and Drug Law Institute (FDLI) is a nonprofit membership organization that offers education, training, publications, and professional engagement opportunities in the field of food and drug law. As a neutral convener, FDLI provides a venue for stakeholders to inform innovative public policy, law, and regulation. FDLI’s scope covers all industries regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and related agencies and authorities in the U.S. and globally, including drugs, medical devices, biologics, food, dietary supplements, cosmetics, cannabis, veterinary, and tobacco products.

FDLI seeks an Assistant Director, Educational Programs to serve as a key member of the FDLI’s Educational Programs team. This position is responsible for researching and analyzing relevant issues in food and drug law to effectively develop and implement timely and topical FDLI conferences, educational programs, and webinars. The role may cover issues related to all industries regulated by the FDA and government agencies, but will focus specifically in the area medical products, including pharmaceuticals, medical devices, biological and biosimilar products, and veterinary medicine. The position reports to the Director, Educational Programs.

FDLI is a hybrid work environment composed of a strong, supportive, and close team of twenty professionals, who communicate primarily through video calls. While employees have the discretion to work from an approved home office or similar remote location, all FDLI employees will have certain workdays in the FDLI office or Washington, DC region, as necessary to meet the needs of the organization. While the hybrid work environment is still evolving, it is expected this position will attend all major in-person conferences in addition to FDLI staff events scheduled throughout the year.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for researching and analyzing relevant issues in food and drug law to effectively develop content and implement timely and topical FDLI conferences, courses, and webinars, specifically as they relate to medical products
  • Works with FDLI’s leadership, members, staff, external committee members, and subject matter experts to identify, select, and develop educational program topics and offerings
  • Writes conference and panel descriptions, as well as promotional copy and other marketing-related materials, as needed
  • Works closely with the marketing department to ensure successful promotion of educational programs
  • Works closely with the membership department to identify new members and aid in member engagement through educational program involvement
  • Works as part of the educational programs team to explore ways to improve FDLI’s member educational experience, services, and programs offered
  • Supports the overall mission of FDLI publications by encouraging involvement with Update Magazine, and The Food and Drug Law Journal, including writing legal articles and analysis, as needed
  • Serves as a staff lead on assigned FDLI educational program committees to administer and coordinate the external committee and any related programs
  • Maintains working knowledge of budget activity (registration revenue and expenses) regarding educational programs
  • Conducts consistent review of FDLI’s website and internal database to ensure content accuracy and track and analyze program registration and attendance 
  • Other duties as assigned

 HERE’S WHAT YOU MIGHT HAVE TACKLED IN THE PAST WEEK:

  • Conducted a video conference planning call with an FDLI Committee to plan for an upcoming conference
  • Lead the review of submissions received during the call for proposals process to ensure the conference addresses the most timely and relevant topics for the audience
  • Worked with FDA or another government agency to secure a keynote or panel speaker for an upcoming conference, including writing a formal invitation letter
  • Connected with a partner at a member law firm to discuss the potential implications of a recent action, such as just-released FDA rule, memo, or guidance document
  • Ran multiple planning calls for panels at an upcoming conference
  • Reviewed recent FDA regulations, government actions, or case law to keep up-to-speed on important topics currently impacting the food and drug community, or researched a specific topic in order to gain a deeper understanding
  • Prepared an agenda for an upcoming event, including writing session topic titles and descriptions
  • Attended and maintained an active role in an FDLI program

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required and JD or graduate degree strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of U.S. food and drug law regulation and policy strongly preferred
  • Relevant experience in adult/continuing education, professional development or related field is a plus 
  • Other than in cases with medical or religious exemption, candidate must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19

The Marketing Coordinator provides reports, guidance, and the frameworks for communication and marketing to both members and target markets. This position reports to the Director of Membership and Stakeholder Engagement and works closely with the Marketing Manager.  In conjunction with the Director, this position is responsible for the production of demographic reports of the membership and target markets; assisting in the building of marketing plans for FDLI programs, publications, and membership packages; and the maintenance of automated marketing pipelines for routine operations.

This position works closely with all FDLI teams/staff by ensuring our members are aware of FDLI’s full catalog of offerings, while also building campaigns that expose new markets to FDLI’s offerings. This position requires highly effective communication and writing skills, demonstrated professionalism, and attention to detail.

  • Coordinate the development of Marketo/Salesforce reports to create more effective messaging and gain a better insight to our target markets. The types of reports include: engagement scores, impressions/messaging, conversion/lead generation, and identification of low-engagement members with highest probability of becoming more engaged.
  • Build the initial analysis of reports to evaluate the effectiveness in marketing and membership activities that include proposed interventions to increase effectiveness of activities.
  • Monitor and coordinate with other staff on email deliverability and good database management.
  • Maintenance of automated Marketing Pipelines/Pathways for FDLI programs, publications, and membership packages. These may include: event conversions, member prospect pipeline, new member, and onboarding pathway.
  • Coordinate re-engagement pathways for both members and non-members.
  • Assist in the evaluation and refinement of demographics for specific groups to develop messaging themes tailored specifically to each group.
  • Support and contribute to departmental and cross-departmental projects and initiatives.
  • Keep abreast of marketing trends within non-profit membership associations.
  • Participate in department’s success by sharing knowledge and best practices with team.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4-year college degree, or equivalent
  • One-to-two years of internship and/or professional experience
  • Prior experience with Marketo or similar marketing automation software
  • Prior experience with Salesforce valuable
  • Sense of humor – dry preferred, but all welcome
  • Proven ability to manage workflows in a team-based environment
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
