Now Available 51st Annual FDLI & FDA Conference A Message from the President & CEO Dear Colleagues, FDLI’s 51st Annual Conference, co-sponsored with FDA, will be held March 26-27, 2008 at the L’Enfant Plaza Hotel in Washington, DC. We hope that you are planning to attend this traditionally significant event. The theme for this year’s Conference is “Scientific Revolution and Scientific breakthroughs are offering hope to an aging public seeking healthier lives through enhanced nutrition, genetic testing for disease and revolutionary new cures. As indicated in the FDA Science and Mission at Risk Report, these advances often pose significant policy issues and challenge the legal and regulatory systems and related resources. While government agencies are empowered to develop and implement policies which stimulate scientific advances for the benefit of public health, they are also mandated to ensure safety and effectiveness and, ultimately, affordability. This year’s Conference will include a focus on these dynamic tensions while informing attendees about what the food & drug laws and regulations are today after FDAAA, and what policy issues may be expected to emerge in the future given the pace of scientific advances. At this Conference, you will hear from top leaders in science, law and commerce and from all three branches of the federal government, including this year, for the first time at FDLI, a member of the Supreme Court of the United States. We are pleased to announce that Justice Antonin Scalia has graciously agreed to address our Conference at lunch on March 27. So please register today and get ready for what promises to be a stimulating and thought provoking educational experience for all of us. We look forward to seeing you on March 26-27 in Washington!
