HIPAA Compliance for Medical Device Companies in the AI Age

JUNE BROOKS is an attorney and serves as the Senior Director of Compliance and Privacy and Chief Privacy Officer for the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical Center. She leads a group of privacy attorneys that provide guidance to senior leadership and researchers for contracts, risks, and compliance issues involving data privacy and security at the federal, state, and international level. She oversees all activities related to the development, implementation, and maintenance of the privacy and compliance program, including policies, trainings, communications, investigations, monitoring, auditing, and guidance. She is a leader for cyber incidents. She conducts and collaborates with Information Technology, Information Security and internal business units to address breaches, disclosures, and risks for sensitive data. She advises the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Primary Investigators (PIs) on data sharing and data protection for national and international medical research projects. She has a Health Law Certificate and is certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC), Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC), and Information Privacy Program Management (CIPM). She is the author of the first edition of HIPAA: A Practical Guide to the Privacy and Security of Health Data and a co-author of the second edition, both of which were published by the American Bar Association.
