The Food and Drug Law Institute, founded in 1949, is a non-profit organization that provides a marketplace for discussing food and drug law issues through conferences, publications and member interaction. The scope of FDLI includes food, drugs, animal drugs, biologics, cosmetics, diagnostics, dietary supplements, medical devices and tobacco. As a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization, FDLI does not engage in advocacy activities.
FDLI’s Mission is to provide education, training, and publications on topical food and drug law; act as a liaison to promote networking as a means to develop professional relationships and idea generation; and ensure an open, balanced marketplace of ideas to inform innovative public policy, law, and regulation.
FDLI welcomes both corporate and individual members. We have a diverse membership of manufacturers, suppliers, law firms, consulting firms, associations, academics, government employees and students. Our members interact regularly by participating in our conferences, writing for our publications and engaging in our committees.
Each year, FDLI holds more than 30 in-person and webinar conferences on topics related to food and drug law. Our annual offerings include: FDLI’s Annual Conference (since 1957), Advertising & Promotion Conference, FDA Enforcement and Litigation Conference, Introduction to Food, Drug and Medical Device Law and Regulation (three separate courses) and advanced courses in food and drug law and regulation.
FDLI produces nearly 50 publications a year addressing cutting edge issues in the food and drug law field, including the award winning peer-reviewed Food and Drug Law Journal (published quarterly), the bi-monthly Update Magazine, practical-guide Primers covering specific food and drug topics (several annually), the Orange Book Companion, and a number of books on specific and timely topics. Together, FDLI’s publications provide a comprehensive set of resources for food and drug law professionals.
FDLI is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors that meets four times per year. is the Chief Executive and President, overseeing the Institute’s four departments: Product Development, Product Implementation, Membership and Marketing, and Finance, Administration and IT.
Volunteers help lead the Institute through the following committees: Audit, Austern Writing Awards Committee, Drug and Biologics, Editorial Advisory Board (Journal), Editorial Advisory Board (Primers), Editorial Advisory Board (Update), Global, Finance, Food and Dietary Supplements, Medical Devices and Tobacco.
